I didn’t watch Gary Michael White’s film version until after I read the novel, so you may say that I am biased but despite the fact that the screenplay came first, I was quite underwhelmed by the film in comparison to the epic romance that Steel showed me. I read The Promise for the first time after my aunt recommended it to me when I was nineteen years old.
